Extended Family Session - Family Photographer Brisbane
One of the most enjoyable photography sessions to capture might have to be extended family sessions. With this wonderful family we had 90 year old Merv, his daughter and her children all in one setting.
With toddler Leo in attendance, we arranged a morning session to ensure the best chance of smiles and fun with him. Morning sessions are great as we can photograph inside the studio and out in the studio gardens in the same photoshoot.
We started in the air conditioned studio as it was a hot summer day, and one of the hot favourite images to capture at a big family photoshoot like this is the generation photo. This photo is one of those special moments in time that will be with the family forever.
Little Leo in his dads arms, nana and great-grandad all in the one photo, it really makes you appreciate the kind of life-long memories that photography can give to a family. I know my own family home has images like this hanging pride of place in the "good lounge", our heritage smiling down on us year after year.
Merv was such a character, not too keen on having all the fuss made about him but going along with it like a good sport. While he was good enough to endure the classic portrait, my personal favourite was when he got very cheeky by poking his tongue out at me! Just look at that mischief in his eyes, spritely as ever!
As it was a lovely day we then headed out side for a change of scenery. I often find that larger groups like this photograph better in the studio gardens as there is a more relaxed feel outdoors. I have a gorgeous outdoor chair made from an oak tree root that is a real character piece to include in family photos and helps to group families together in a natural and relaxed way.
I always break groups down into smaller family units as well, so Leo and his parents had their own set of family photos as part of this photoshoot.
Of course to finish we had to capture some single portraits of little Leo on his own. I have a few outdoor props for kids his age and the rusty old trike has to be one of the most popular! It seems to bring out the best smiles everytime.
